Restricted Area’s Trekking Cards and Permits for Conservation Areas, National Parks:
All trekkers required to carry a Trekkers’ (TIMS Card). You can collect it from the Tourist Service Center in Kathmandu: Sunday – Friday from 10:00 am to 01:00 pm and 02:00 pm – 05:00 pm. It’s free but requires two passport size photographs. (Travel agencies provide the cards for their guests.) Show it at a checkpoint during the trekking.
Trekking permits are required for all treks that go via Conservation Areas or National Parks.
Permits of the Conservation Area can be purchased at the Tourist Service Centre for NPR 2000 plus two photographs.
National Park entry tickets cost NPR 3000. Buy on the Department of National Parks and Wildlife Conservation Office of Sunday – Friday 09:00 am – 02:00 pm.
Permits for Restricted Area are required most for camping trek in remote areas near the Tibetan Border – for which guide is strongly endorsed. They are able only to be bought for two or more trekkers. The permits are issued by the Central Immigration office only, and it takes two working days. Your original passports (not facsimiles) and two clear recent photographs. Fees range from US$10/week to US$500/10 days plus substantial additional fees for each further day. This process will depend on your chosen agency. Places of work are open every day, but with constrained hours on Saturdays.
