Upper Dolpo with Rara Lake

Tour Itinerary

Day 01: Arrival Kathmandu - Arrive Kathmandu airport meet and assist by our representative and transfer to your hotel.

Arrive Kathmandu airport meet and assist by our representative and transfer to your hotel. We will spend our day time with relaxation, and in the evening we will attend the Welcome dinner hosted by Nebula Travels. You will be served authentic Nepali Cuisine with a live cultural show. Overnight at Hotel.

Day 02: Kathmandu sightseeing and Trek preparation day

Breakfast at hotel and today we will visit the most important shrines of Kathmandu Valley, including cultural and historical sites. The sightseeing places include historical Durbar Square (city of temples), Pashupatinath (The sacred holy temple belongs to Lord Shiva), Swoyambhunath (Known as monkey temple) and Bouddhanath (a Biggest stupa in the world). Late afternoon we will meet our trekking guide, and you will be provided with the opportunity to ask and question your guide for your upcoming journey. Overnight at Hotel in Kathmandu.

Day 03: Fly to Nepalgunj (45 Minutes Flight)

After our short stay in Kathmandu, we will take a short flight to Nepalgunj-1 hour. It is situated at the Nepal – India Border, which is the gateway to the Humla and Simikot. It offers a diverse culture in the Terai region. We can spend our time visiting mini Zoo, Local Village and nearby market. Overnight at hotel at Nepalgunj.

Day 04: Fly from Nepalgunj to Juphal (Dolpo) and Trek to Dunai (2850M)-45 minutes flight and 2-3 hours trek

After breakfast transport to the airport and fly to Juphal, and we will meet our trekking crew at Juphal airport. The trail passes through the terraced field through the Bheri River and to its narrow gorge. We will then reach Dunai which is also the headquarter of Dolpo district. On the northern side, we can see Annapurna and Dhaulagiri massif. In the evening we will visit a nearby village where we will set our camp. Overnight at Camp.

Day 05: Dunai to Ankhe (2896M)

We turn to the west after crossing the suspension bridge leaving Dunai behind and past the Hospital. Up the side of treeless the trail ascends up. Before entering the Phokshundo River valley, we pass through Thulo River Valley. Up to the valley, we view Kagmara peak during the walk. Walking through the dense jungle passing through Dhara and Rahagaun villages finally we reach Ankhe. Overnight at camp.

Day 06: Ankhe to Sulughat (5 to 6 hours)

Along the wooden bank, our trails ascend and descend and up on a steep trail. It could be a bit Monotonous while up and down, but the river stream located on the way offers the chance to cool off. High above the river after leaving the forest, the trail passes through the grassy slope. Surrounding by lush green forest, we trek downhill on a trail before reaching the cliff to the riverbank followed by dizzying on a wobbly stone staircase. Until we reach up to Sulughat, we will continue our trek. Overnight at camp.

Day 07: Sulghatt to Phokshundo Lake (3611M) 4 to 5 hours

4 to 5 hours - until we reach the confluence of the river Phokshundo and Pungmo we continue our trek along the valley floor. We walk to the western bank of Pungmo Khola after crossing the bridge. Before reaching Palam Village, we walk through the Cedar forest. We enjoy a distinct view of Phokshundo after we trek up to the ridge and also one of the highest waterfalls can see. From the bitch forest, our trail descends to the upper reaches of Phokshundo Khola and view of mud-plastered Chortens and Mani wall can be seen in Ringmo Village from where the Phokshundo is quite near. Overnight at camp.

Day 08: Acclimatization day at Phokshundo Lake

This is exploration and acclimatization day at Phokshundo Lake. This day we can do surrounding hikes around the lake also can visit the local village of Ringmo and its Tibetan Buddhist Monasteries. During our exploration, we can encounter with local culture and experience their lifestyle. Both Men and Women wear religious strings, and ornaments — overnight at camp.

Day 09: Phokshundo to Sallaghari (3750M)

It is also one of the best days at Dolpo. Cut on a cliff among the narrow trail in which it climbs, which is standing straight vertically above Phokshundo Lake. It is like a fantasy walk portrayed by the writer in their fiction, Nobel. On the other side of the lake to get to the Phokshundo Khola camp, we slide to the beautiful forest for about 90 minutes. At the final point of the day, we reach Sallaghari. Overnight at camp.

Day 10: Sallaghari to Nangdada High Camp (4714M)

This day is a relatively short trek. To reach Nangdala High Camp, it requires about 3 hours walk. From the narrow defile of Tuk Layaksa River, the trek will be ascending up. For several times the trail switches to the opposite side of the river, where the rapids are a clam. As soon as we arrive in this place, we will cross the river over the bridge. After crossing the bridge and with almost 30 minutes of walk we come across the wide valley and along the canyon with further 2 hours walk bring us to the potential campsite, which is Nangdala Camp where we will set up our camp. Overnight at camp.

Day 11: Nangdada High camp to Shey Gompa (4343M) Via Nangdada Pass (5350M)

Today we walk through remarkable Shey Gompa and also pass through the Crystal Mountains where people worship this mountain before harvesting crops, and it is the most sacred mountain among people in Dolpo. From this day, we enter the real Dolpo. We have to cross Nangdala Pass to enter to this Mystical land. To the western side of the lake, we trek along a quick and narrow trail. We are otherwise known as Devils trail. Both just 6000 m the view of peaks named Shey Shikkar & Kang Chhune can be observed while before descending to the valley floor which is steep downwards along the river. The entrance to Shey is marked by red Chorten. Overnight at camp.

Day 12: Shey Gompa to Tata

The trail is relatively easy with some ups and downs. Overnight at camp.

Day 13: Tata to Bhijervia, Shamling Gompa

On this day, we will pass through old Bon monastery "Shyamling." This is famous among Tantrik Lamas and their knowledge. We can observe and interact with a lama in these monasteries. Overnight at camp.

Day 14: Bhijer rest day

About the "Snow Leopard" the people have a lot of knowledge. We can also listen to some incidents of leopards encounter with local people of the village. They have precise knowledge of how to protect their cattle from this endangered wild cat. Overnight at camp.

Day 15: Bhijer to Pho Village

Dominated by Bon Religion and Monastery, Phu village is famous for the religious and natural point of view. The Nepal Government has found it recently due to its extreme remoteness. Overnight at camp.

Day 16: Pho village to Ghyalung Khor

Up to Nyingma Gyanzen La (5563M) the trail goes uphill, which is a little bit difficult trek and again we have to walk downhill to Ghyalung Khor. Overnight at camp.

Day 17: Ghyalung Khor to Pung Kharka

The trek is quite more comfortable compared to the previous day. Overnight at camp.

Day 18: Pung Kharka to Chyandi Khola

As we make our way from Pung kharka to Chyandi Khola, we passes through snow leopard territory. While trekking on the way to Chayandi Khola, we may see Himalayan Thar and Musk Deer, where we camp overnight. The most important Monastery is located in Phu Village. Nepal Government has found this place recently due to its remoteness. Via Yala-La pass (5414M) the trek goes to Chyandi Khola. Overnight at camp.

Day 19: Chyandi Khola to Takla Khola

From Chyandi Khola we trek to Takla Khola. Overnight at camp.

Day 20: From Takla Khola to Thajachaur

Today we pass the Gyaro-La (5150M) through the traverse. We also go through some difficult rocky ground and snowy high ground. We will set up a camp at Thajachaur. Overnight at camp.

Day 21: Thajachaur to Shilenchaur

From Thajachaur we go to Shilenchaur. Overnight at camp.

Day 22: Shiilenchaur to Pulu

Today we trek to Pulu from Shailenchaur. Overnight at camp.

Day 23: Pulu to Lumsha Village

We trek to Lumsha Village from Pulu. Overnight at camp.

Day 24: Lumsha Village to Rara

Today we trek to Rara Lake haven of earth from Lumsha Village. Overnight at camp.

Day 25: Rest and Exploration day at Rara

This is a free day at Rara so that we will have leisurely breakfast. You may take beautiful pictures, have boating at the lake and even can do surrounding hikes or horse ride. All meals, breakfast/lunch/dinner, will be served. Overnight at camp.

Day 26: Rara Lake to Talcha airport (3 hours)

We trek back to Talcha Airport via Ghamghadi which is 3 hours walking distance. Overnight at camp.

Day 27: Fly to Nepalgunj from Talcha Airport and take a connecting flight to Kathmandu

We will reach Kathmandu via flight (Talcha Airport- Nepalgunj-Kathmandu). Overnight at the hotel in Kathmandu. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 28: Departure Day/Tour end

After having breakfast at the hotel, wait till flight time then drives to Tribhuvan International Airport for your flight back home.
